Die Klasse 6bc läd ein zur Theateraufführung:
The Wizard of Oz

The Wizard of Oz – ein Projekt, das für die sechste Klasse wie gerufen kam und wie geschaffen ist: Fächerübergreifend arbeiten drei Lehrer, ein Sozialpädagoge und zahlreiche Eltern zusammen, um gemeinsam mit 26 Zwölfjährigen Begeisterung, Durchhaltekraft, Gestaltungsfreude und Eigenverantwortung zu üben. Fast nebenbei wird eine “Fremd”sprache zum Freund: Englisch. Fast von selbst lernen wir, füreinander einzustehen. Ganz beiläufig erwerben wir Mut zur Artikulation. Ganz natürlich tauchen wir gemeinsam ins einzige Erziehungsmittel ein, das wirklich wirksam ist: die Kunst. Lohnt sich! (Text: K.v. Bechtolsheim)

Since its publication in 1900, L. Frank Baum’s children’s book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, has charmed generations of children and adults alike. This deceptively simple story of a young girl and her friends’ adventures and travails along the Yellow Brick Road in a magical land called Oz, had become one of the best-known stories in popular Anglophone culture, especially after the release of the 1939 MGM film, The Wizard of Oz, with Judy Garland in the lead. Many Berliners may also be familiar with Alexander M. Volkov’s Russian adaptation of the same story circa 1939: Волшебник Изумрудного Города (The Wizard of Emerald City).

Frank Baum acknowledged the influence of amongst others, the Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen and Lewis Carroll on his work and over the years many attempts have been made at a variety of political and cultural readings and interpretations of The Wizard of Oz. Regardless of interpretation, this delightfully, happy, innocent, if not naïve, story has provided us with a fantastic opportunity to bring all our English work from the first 6 years of English instruction at our school to a new level of proficiency and joy-in-being-in-another-tongue. The teaching team of Class 6BC are happy to bring our English language version of this charming story to the stage here in Kreuzberg.
